The Response

After praying and reading my comments from the previous post here is the response I sent to #2's teacher this morning:

Hi Mrs. S,

First of all, thank you so much for your kind response. With that being said, I have no major concerns about the reading time. Perhaps, if she feels uncomfortable with the subject matter (mostly anything about witches, haunted houses and ghosts is the biggest concern) would she be able to read on her own in a different part of the classroom? I trust her judgment. #2 and I are able to discuss what she read about when she gets home and I’m okay with that. And, I want to reassure you that I don’t plan to be the “high maintenance” parent that questions everything you do the rest of the school year! You have our support, this just happens to be one of those things that as a Christian family, we feel we should not participate in….everyone has their own convictions on the subject, and I appreciate that you are willing to work with us!

I’d also be happy to help with the classroom party if you need volunteers. Thanks so much!

Great response. You are a great mom and your children are blessed to have you. Thank you for being such a great example of a godly mom. No, your not perfect but you give it your best.

What a nice parent you are! I would have LOVED to get that kind of a letter from a parent when I taught school. (sigh) I love you, Melissa!

I'm back tracking, cuz I'm still catching up from having family here. First, thank you for your kind words about our family. We are indeed blessed, and the older I get, the more I appreciate them. And appreciate that not everyone has this particular experience with their family. I'm blessed. But I do want to remind you - you are blessed with the opportunity to forge a new path, make new traditions and create a different kind of appreciation for what you all share with Mr. and the girls. You have chosen to walk a new path and are doing it fabulously! Your girls are very, very blessed to have you.

And I love these two posts - your honesty, your openness to ideas, and your sensitivity to the teacher and her impressions of you as a family. Your tender heart and open willing hands will speak VOLUMES to her and to the other families in your school. They will.

Thanks for all your encouraging posts. Today, I just wanted you to know I love you and miss you. Being the only crazy redhead here gets lonely :)

I just read your last 2 posts and I wanted to let you know that your responses were great and it is awesome that you are getting so involved with your daugher's lives. You are definitely not being high maintenance, but you are showing a strong interest in your daughter's well being. I agree with classic mama - I wish that I had more parents (of students I taught) like you!

Thank you also for your encouraging words that you have given to me.
